<br />
I'm trying something new this year in that I will be using my blog as a sales platform for my nursery and vintage business.<br />
<br />
I have had this business since 2001 and always thought to have a website, but never got all my ducks in a row to do so.<br />
<br />
And now I know I would never be able to promote both a blog and website, so I am combining into one instead.<br />
<br />
I have had a pond and raised aquatic plants all along. Some years better then others. My koi love to dump my pots and scatter my <br />
<br />
plants everywhere!<br />
<br />
I found a great supplier that has a good variety and can usually get my supplies within 2 weeks of ordering.<br />
<br />
So I will be listing the aquatic plants that I have available or can get. Varieties might sell out so let me know if we can <br />
<br />
substitute.<br />
<br />
PRICES will be for BARE ROOT plants. Aquatic plants require a heavy garden soil or clay soil ideally. <br />
<br />
Arrangements can be made to pot the plants for you for an additional price.<br />
<br />
At this time I will only list the hardy lilies. These come back every year.<br />
<br />
If you want some tropical lilies that you grow for 1 growing season or have a way to overwinter them, please contact me.<br />
<br />
And please, DON'T EVER release any non-native plants into any bodies of water besides your home pond, or into the wild.<br />

<br />
The garden is finally awake. Although a frost again last night makes me dubious about pulling out all the plants from the safety of the greenhouse and sunroom.<br />
<br />
Since we were nudged up a zone to 6 several years ago, our last frost date should be May 6. But true to the bi-polar weather Spokane is known for, not everything is by the book.<br />
<br />
So for now I scan the sky and check the weather station quite often. One might say obsessively. <br />
<br />
<br />
But when you have been caretakers of thousands of seedlings for over 8 weeks it becomes second nature.<br />
<br />
Heaven forbid if Hubby doesn't get his pickling cucumber starts or Daughter her lemon cukes and Snow berry tomatoes!<br />
<br />
And the weather has sure run the gamut from t-storms with power outages, snowstorms, hail, and driving rain, with the sun-breaks that dazzle.<br />
<br />
So even with the extreme weather conditions and the fact Baby got all three of us sick, we made it through our first garden show of the year, the Garden Expo, this Mothers Day weekend.<br />
It was an enormous success and I got to see old friends, and meet new ones.<br />
<br />
We were like a well-oiled machine rolling out our racks of plants from the horse trailer our dear friends so kindly lend us for this event.<br />
<br />
In the old days we hand carried the myriad amounts of flats and pots from the parking lot to our space inside.<br />
<br />
And the weather cooperated. It waited to pour down on us after we were loaded up after the show and on the way home!<br />
<br />
A big thank you to all my customers and my family for their help.<br />
<br />
Now if the weather will warm and dry up so I can tackle the weeding and lawn mowing. And so I can get my own garden planted!<br />
<br />

<br />
With the coming of Spring, work has started up in the greenhouse. Cleaning and filling flats and pots with soil mix.<br />
<br />
The snow has finally completely gone from the yard so work can commence outdoors as well.<br />
<br />
Pussy willows have budded and need to be cut for future arrangements.<br />
<br />
The lawn looks a bit sad. There will be a problem this year with lawn mold. The many months of smothering snow pack has caused this. Our snow came and stayed before the ground had a chance to freeze.<br />
<br />
If you notice a rotting smell or pink, white , or yellow discoloration, this is what it is.<br />
<br />
Lightly rake to remove the dead areas, being careful not to remove the grass roots. Just enough to fluff it up to allow air circulation. Don't compost this or feed it to your chickens or livestock. Dispose of in a garbage bag.<br />
<br />
Wait till around May to apply your usual spring application of fertilizer, or a light topdressing of an organic compost, manure, etc. Fertilizing too early in spring can encourage lush top growth at the expense of root growth. <br />
<br />
You should see results as the weather warms and the lawn continues to dry out.<br />
<br />
Luckily, we seem to have minimal damage. I have raked off the few remaining leaves of Autumn and any dead growth.<br />
<br />
Grass seed has been thrown down over some dead areas by the back garage door where heavy carts of chicken feed have been rolling all winter and caused the damage.<br />
<br />
Every year I suggest the lawn replaced with a mulch walkway or even a gravel path but no solution has been agreed upon.<br />
<br />
In the sunroom just off the office tomato and hot pepper seeds are up and heading out to the greenhouse. We are waiting for the second set of leaves to appear before transplanting the seedlings into bigger pots.<br />
<br />
When we had a day without rain I managed to start mucking out the chicken coop. We use a deep litter method inside the roosting room and now all that 'litter gold' is going out on the raised garden beds.<br />
I got all five of the beds on the south side of the greenhouse covered, including the two beds of asparagus and rows of rhubarb and the winter onions and chives.<br />
<br />
It has been raining again so I need it to dry out before venturing back into the coop. Besides, My foot has been telling me I have been using it too much.<br />
<br />
So I instead am in the greenhouse with a chair and am re-potting the seed geraniums, and cutting back the scented geraniums and potting them up into retail-ready pots.<br />
<br />
I am also planting some succulent pots and wreathes, and planting on some birdhouse roofs.<br />
<br />
The Swedish ivy hanging baskets are next. They missed their re-potting last year and just received a topdressing of new soil, so they will get a complete overhaul now.<br />
<br />
The hanging tomato baskets are sown as are the petunias, and other basket flowers and various perennials. Also some herbs that need the additional time to germinate.<br />
<br />
Somewhere I have put my seed potatoes that will go into feed bags again this year. I can get three years planting use out of those bags so it is a win win.<br />
<br />
Onions are in as are the peas and beets. We are trying a white beet this year so no using the water for dyeing cloth! They promise to be a sweeter beet so can't wait to try them.<br />
<br />
This is the time of year I wander around and take cuttings from everything. The angel trumpets have been blooming all winter in the greenhouse and I have taken some starts from them. If they look really pretty I will be offering them at Farmers Market this summer.<br />
<br />
I need to find some more novelty planters to fill with succulents. And when it warms a bit more we will be making more hypertufa creations. Besides the troughs and pots I want to try the draped towel and doily containers. (more about that later, hopefully)<br />
<br />
Sunday, Betsy took me to Home Depot and I purchased some replacement grape plants for the grape arbor. You may recall past pictures of the grape arbor with the hammock hanging below. What a wonderful place for a nap and being able to reach up and pluck ripe grapes is so decadent! Anyway, over the years because of lax pruning and tending, we have lost the green and purple table grapes. All that is left growing are the champagne and the concord grape. So Home Depot had their grape plants out so I purchased the replacements. If the rain and wind ever stops I will venture out to dig holes and plant them.<br />
<br />
If I have time I want to go over all the houseplants and repot, prune, and rejuvenate them. This will probably be done right before I set them out in the shady area off the back porch for summer. They really benefit from being outdoors for those months before frost comes round again.<br />
<br />
So off I go to do some work in the greenhouse.<br />
It's always warm and moist in there and I love the sound of the rain pounding overhead. <br />
<br />
My own little piece of the tropics!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNyLhZ6fkgq9INm_BhjQR6qPYqjWKsfyHpU18gcTw-uHRzXC4miKJIK2cjdsuP_iMCWokO4jpX7xebtU9XP1qP4jJ38wCbwXco-kWQ8jgtLBjz2Sm-MDMSWtvuFbYzKad3ya1C2FfSH9YE/s1600/kcs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNyLhZ6fkgq9INm_BhjQR6qPYqjWKsfyHpU18gcTw-uHRzXC4miKJIK2cjdsuP_iMCWokO4jpX7xebtU9XP1qP4jJ38wCbwXco-kWQ8jgtLBjz2Sm-MDMSWtvuFbYzKad3ya1C2FfSH9YE/s640/kcs.jpg" width="548" height="640" /></a></div><br />
I know it will come<br />
<br />
It does so every year.<br />
<br />
But this year I need to convince myself.<br />
<br />
As with years behind me, there have not been glimpses of the coming Spring.<br />
<br />
Grey remains of summers blooms in the flowerbeds.<br />
<br />
Brown soggy patches of lawn.<br />
<br />
Not this year.<br />
<br />
Like layers of ancient glaciers, the first snow of the year is still here. <br />
<br />
Instead of melting away, it has piled, showing every storm of winter.<br />
<br />
Removing it has been tough.<br />
<br />
we have run out of room. <br />
<br />
It spills over fences onto the front lawn.<br />
<br />
It has become a shroud around and behind the mailboxes.<br />
<br />
The driveway no longer accommodates three cars wide. <br />
<br />
It has buried the tether ball hanging from its pole. It has encroached up the sides of the RV.<br />
<br />
It has drowned itself in the pond and raised the level up past the shoreline.<br />
<br />
The chickens no longer want out of their dry confines. They can no longer scratch through and find ground.<br />
<br />
Even our dogs no longer enjoy running outside to chase the squirrels and birds. We have to shovel a way out for them with each new snowfall. Or they will high center.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPvcc_IvppjbVhVwQoezkvJEKqNwryxL53QyhvEuAsCzovix0-ZJ6JVf8aNR2qTDEQnBKVvvDi6bigqO_n2w1DD-VqS6TYyMfsIhA71nyNNq6W1J3PEv1f30EpKGzJyh_wPCaEUsrgnH-H/s1600/snow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPvcc_IvppjbVhVwQoezkvJEKqNwryxL53QyhvEuAsCzovix0-ZJ6JVf8aNR2qTDEQnBKVvvDi6bigqO_n2w1DD-VqS6TYyMfsIhA71nyNNq6W1J3PEv1f30EpKGzJyh_wPCaEUsrgnH-H/s400/snow.jpg" width="400" height="267" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
It just never melted between storms. It just kept accumulating.<br />
<br />
But now it has started to melt. Now that means a different problem.<br />
<br />
All that melted snow has to go somewhere. And it has.<br />
<br />
Taking out driveways, over running creek beds. Flooding basements and garages and shops.<br />
<br />
And the potholes! I have not seen them so widespread as this year. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQgL_RtN6R81rpca7D_dZNRGFOFy6w2XZwJXscX2Ql1g1dIG2M2J5pddiwqeqnyomh1dG2CgrCK4eEuhYcIqv1S2YB0RERooiOEI0yNHU86XPHpLMiVxK1SoXjxXHBUM8dsDn80kWyvZ3B/s1600/potholes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQgL_RtN6R81rpca7D_dZNRGFOFy6w2XZwJXscX2Ql1g1dIG2M2J5pddiwqeqnyomh1dG2CgrCK4eEuhYcIqv1S2YB0RERooiOEI0yNHU86XPHpLMiVxK1SoXjxXHBUM8dsDn80kWyvZ3B/s320/potholes.jpg" width="320" height="213" /></a></div><br />
<br />
But it is melting, and soon it will be gone.<br />
<br />
And grey will green up.<br />
<br />
And brown, mushy will turn firm and colored.<br />
<br />
New life will emerge.<br />
<br />
Thank goodness for Spring!<br />
<br />
We have waited an eternity for you!<br />
<br />

What Are Yours?<br />
<br />
Just finished up with my last vintage and handcraft show for the year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd_Xdnm0nijXPs1gcvmHqsL-SWgVo11Q_5QdpjVtDmoJAi6BuJu_SKVHzQ5mZiVXaWqPN9DTMq01F64zkLLnhDI8Y5xxrND-vrVlBsDFL4eFMj0fs6EjBVDR66jMh5iUq2sJzaKOnnL8LN/s1600/show+at+greyhound+dec2106.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd_Xdnm0nijXPs1gcvmHqsL-SWgVo11Q_5QdpjVtDmoJAi6BuJu_SKVHzQ5mZiVXaWqPN9DTMq01F64zkLLnhDI8Y5xxrND-vrVlBsDFL4eFMj0fs6EjBVDR66jMh5iUq2sJzaKOnnL8LN/s400/show+at+greyhound+dec2106.jpg" width="300" height="400" /></a></div><br />
So now I can focus on Christmas and the family.<br />
<br />
<br />

As I am sitting here in the office, looking out thru the sunroom windows, I am eternally grateful for a roof over my head.<br />
<br />
It is absolutely freezing! About 12° but feels like 2° with the wind.<br />
The chickens are going to stay in their house for a bit longer today I think! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ht4Ru5R8qINUiWiQ70AQ7rsgukGZoScPRxlA7Kuf7zaue4Nl13LXDK85fVNCsDu5AeqqpO5AYxIFLmOJKlrx5nFcfvZr5AMHzaTu1ZsnFFc5_GSeku3C-nv4ybe6kd-H5jn94Q6Ovi5m/s1600/chicken+in+sweater.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ht4Ru5R8qINUiWiQ70AQ7rsgukGZoScPRxlA7Kuf7zaue4Nl13LXDK85fVNCsDu5AeqqpO5AYxIFLmOJKlrx5nFcfvZr5AMHzaTu1ZsnFFc5_GSeku3C-nv4ybe6kd-H5jn94Q6Ovi5m/s400/chicken+in+sweater.jpg" width="368" height="400" /></a></div><br />

The feeling we get this time of year. Can't we keep it all year?<br />
Family and friends draw near. Christmas cards still appear.<br />
<br />
<br />
The sun is coming out and it makes everything just a bit more cheery.<br />
The holiday cactus are blooming, the amaryllis are budding.<br />
The rooms are scented with cinnamon, and bayberry, and pine.<br />
Iced drinks are replaced with hot.<br />
I love wrapping my hands around a hot cup of Earl Grey or Constant Comment!<br />
<br />
Cuddling my my Hubs and the doggies!<br />
I think I will go do that now.<br />
<br />
Share some of your favorite things about this time of year.<br />
And look at this season through the eyes of a child!<br />
Reach out to others and look beyond your own struggles.<br />
<br />
Peace and Cheers,<br />

Well, the frost came but not before I was able to grab all the peppers out of the garden.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I simply pulled all the plants up from the beds and placed them in the cart and headed for the greenhouse.<br />
<br />
<br />
There I removed the fruit from the plants and gathered them into a clean garbage can.<br />
<br />
<br />
The empty plants were handed over to the chickens who enjoyed them as food tremendously while the ducks used them as nesting material.<br />
<br />
<br />
I drug the pepper-filled can to the garage and transferred the peppers to colanders to bring to the kitchen sink.<br />
<br />
<br />
There they were washed, the stem cut off and seeded.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYtVxxHT-eR7yViryJHMBrWSrGtEUg0I0qZIloMe1PPg3qAQGydEcYZ9i0rD3D50PfW2rR9w4qMrMN1dAXxwG1REgSNQwCMPtI6IpdUhZrEK94aEvknAiSjjJ3j_tu1JrKv-S27Qgq6iWe/s1600/100_7287_2413.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYtVxxHT-eR7yViryJHMBrWSrGtEUg0I0qZIloMe1PPg3qAQGydEcYZ9i0rD3D50PfW2rR9w4qMrMN1dAXxwG1REgSNQwCMPtI6IpdUhZrEK94aEvknAiSjjJ3j_tu1JrKv-S27Qgq6iWe/s320/100_7287_2413.JPG" width="320" height="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
From there I cut them into narrow 1/4" strips and rings and laid them out on the trays of my Excalibur dehydrator.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoLyYRQUH5Hpu85sqTm6zzrTPe4JjiLImiGqbm2wxEUMRDQo3U0t1g7qOuC9rO1fgUJz_F_OZSibdmI8XdbjfQx4FN4PrVJUripZpa8TdbZOR7sDkeCKHhSUqV4b70DGPBpWjAScKADMkH/s1600/100_7281_2407.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoLyYRQUH5Hpu85sqTm6zzrTPe4JjiLImiGqbm2wxEUMRDQo3U0t1g7qOuC9rO1fgUJz_F_OZSibdmI8XdbjfQx4FN4PrVJUripZpa8TdbZOR7sDkeCKHhSUqV4b70DGPBpWjAScKADMkH/s400/100_7281_2407.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div><br />
I set5 the dial to 125 degrees and left them on their own for the next 4 to 8 hours.<br />
<br />
<br />
Soon the house was filled with the tantalizing smell of heated peppers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA9t4nCHjkf60h09imccghr9LEoyGf5fY7TXOmT1Nzwbw9lstXmFQulF2KYn6wm5hsTa7Qsu_x8L_0L1KM8OriAwMvte4lo7v1r4_oqplP-IWEPWHzL0Yf7cxkV7e5A20sIrxTQ5IMbNXv/s1600/100_7283_2409.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA9t4nCHjkf60h09imccghr9LEoyGf5fY7TXOmT1Nzwbw9lstXmFQulF2KYn6wm5hsTa7Qsu_x8L_0L1KM8OriAwMvte4lo7v1r4_oqplP-IWEPWHzL0Yf7cxkV7e5A20sIrxTQ5IMbNXv/s400/100_7283_2409.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div><br />
A much better fragrance then when I dry mushrooms!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyv5ZCjyBZLteOPhxbiSpde9eIFufjDpFr0-JXYcAtecsYuZmoaeFPSqhJON31OYVJE7bRAJrV2h11PyqM3ZmaQODUkQE7zjhFevjVZgWgKiUpw-LO8ekQYi5YhsQR9PfWI7Wsy4waBOdw/s1600/100_7282_2408.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyv5ZCjyBZLteOPhxbiSpde9eIFufjDpFr0-JXYcAtecsYuZmoaeFPSqhJON31OYVJE7bRAJrV2h11PyqM3ZmaQODUkQE7zjhFevjVZgWgKiUpw-LO8ekQYi5YhsQR9PfWI7Wsy4waBOdw/s320/100_7282_2408.JPG" width="320" height="240" /></a></div><br />
After they have dried to a leathery feel, I cool them and then place them in ziploc bags.<br />
<br />
<br />
The drying intensifies their flavors, heat and sugars, and I use them in all kinds of dishes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha9opLePZqjZf-u6zqvpj_9AvWQHB088zts7bdSVECoXi8IAApZn5b7BpwViskPQDp113nVKD1P6spThDfNC7_y2isi_8GxjDH6FQByS4OX8eNZogMcuScu5U72hqEU0TKzTmFV8hIrj4Z/s1600/100_7285_2411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha9opLePZqjZf-u6zqvpj_9AvWQHB088zts7bdSVECoXi8IAApZn5b7BpwViskPQDp113nVKD1P6spThDfNC7_y2isi_8GxjDH6FQByS4OX8eNZogMcuScu5U72hqEU0TKzTmFV8hIrj4Z/s400/100_7285_2411.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div><br />
They can be left that size or crumbled up to use in meat rubs or other recipes that call for pepper flakes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9ofeAgIMOzL9AYkas_M6DEOZSZwTHWpfBccFkRoQIzoNhvUzUWHycWWtXcfuNPvEUON02Y6fMvC19saWVOesxilpnzfgRKm-CcomIyxbr7MXq27SMGXOgkF59fvi-dcLKBjt7j_ge7Wyt/s1600/100_7286_2412.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9ofeAgIMOzL9AYkas_M6DEOZSZwTHWpfBccFkRoQIzoNhvUzUWHycWWtXcfuNPvEUON02Y6fMvC19saWVOesxilpnzfgRKm-CcomIyxbr7MXq27SMGXOgkF59fvi-dcLKBjt7j_ge7Wyt/s400/100_7286_2412.JPG" width="400" height="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I will not dry all the peppers.<br />
<br />
<br />
Some, like the cherry pick and smaller cubanelles and hungarians will go into a brine for my family fave pickled peppers.<br />
They are eagerly devoured by the grandkids over the winter.<br />
<br />
<br />
It's a really easy recipe of vinegar, salt, fresh garlic cloves, and pickling spices.<br />
<br />
<br />
I pierce the skins of the pepper in several spots and place them in glass gallon jars.<br />
<br />
<br />
I mix the vinegar and spices and salt until well mixed and pour over the peppers till they are covered.<br />
I place the lid on and put them in the refrigerator to pickle. They will be ready after about 6 weeks.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
We've been blessed in the Pacific Northwest this year.<br />
<br />
<br />
A pretty great summer with not many rain-outs at Farmers Market.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2znMKHBvlhk17pZlRpli4T9SRgT7sdoQlahhyphenhyphenOdUeSzSEpLJPxNqOAuimwMLjiC-F-buaen-0CiwcQ-wr2c93JLKGY9LRGYUVXpsYlRyg_XsiufZpGzUB4DLxCHHQY5fliIB9HnyVJuaN/s1600/IMG_20160806_103708.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2znMKHBvlhk17pZlRpli4T9SRgT7sdoQlahhyphenhyphenOdUeSzSEpLJPxNqOAuimwMLjiC-F-buaen-0CiwcQ-wr2c93JLKGY9LRGYUVXpsYlRyg_XsiufZpGzUB4DLxCHHQY5fliIB9HnyVJuaN/s400/IMG_20160806_103708.jpg" width="300" height="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Heat waves that we've managed pretty well.<br />
<br />
(We added an awning over the back porch/ barbecue area)<br />
<br />
Putting up a shade house really saved the plants from torture in the greenhouse.<br />
<br />
(And helped with the multi times a day watering)<br />
<br />
Hubs and I learned that sitting out in our zero gravity chairs under the cherry tree can be a really sweet thing.<br />
<br />
<br />
(We had always felt guilty about wasting work time)<br />
<br />
We were able to watch the osprey gliding high overhead, discover all the jets coming and going and guess which ones were landing in Spokane, and watching the squirrels and woodpeckers call to wayward children and mates.<br />
<br />
We usually have a hard frost that obliterates most everything followed by several weeks of warm weather again.<br />
<br />
This year we will be getting our first frost Monday night.<br />
<br />
Almost halfway through October. Pretty amazing really.<br />
<br />
But we have been leading up to it. <br />
<br />
That crisp nip in the air when you know summer is over.<br />
<br />
Turning off the AC and leaving the doors and windows open instead.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1AOyu3v_TiYJYrW-x0MN9QsQh-cc8wl0xXnz-K1L43ifohEzr3KJ54JfpHTwmXWdicduk4CkaBb4k_q_XSKoaYnnnMYOy8x_MM5jEtqBZEZV9mbKYOEa3NXF5sn-A5YOgbXL4289AhkaG/s1600/lace+curtains+in+breeze.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1AOyu3v_TiYJYrW-x0MN9QsQh-cc8wl0xXnz-K1L43ifohEzr3KJ54JfpHTwmXWdicduk4CkaBb4k_q_XSKoaYnnnMYOy8x_MM5jEtqBZEZV9mbKYOEa3NXF5sn-A5YOgbXL4289AhkaG/s320/lace+curtains+in+breeze.jpg" width="262" height="320" /></a></div> (I love open windows. Lace curtains moving)<br />
<br />
Telltale signs of the tired hanging baskets suddenly putting on a new batch of blooms.<br />
<br />
Pine cone droppage has ramped up and the starlings have arrived to eat the grapes and apples.<br />
<br />
So now the leaves will start coloring up and dropping.<br />
<br />
The tamaracks on the hills will be noticeable from the pines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAWmc2A53tW_LbZ0X2rlPklL0kjG7jP1mNRcqxJacif0E3zpl6wQmzTiIHHiCtarWbI61OQ_uWKh_UTvBLGiVTBGD3TtjLYh4JEfbBNlHmVoz7LdL45AgOarz1xk6UZWu1-4tX_IaKplrj/s1600/tamarack+in+fall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAWmc2A53tW_LbZ0X2rlPklL0kjG7jP1mNRcqxJacif0E3zpl6wQmzTiIHHiCtarWbI61OQ_uWKh_UTvBLGiVTBGD3TtjLYh4JEfbBNlHmVoz7LdL45AgOarz1xk6UZWu1-4tX_IaKplrj/s400/tamarack+in+fall.jpg" width="400" height="250" /></a></div><br />
Sadly the patio furniture will be put away. <br />
Hummingbird feeders washed and stored.<br />
Suet feeders restocked.<br />
Fountains and extra pumps in the pond turned off.<br />
<br />
The kids came over yesterday and helped us get ready.<br />
The houseplants were all carried into the sunroom.<br />
<br />
Tropicals and tender perennials were hauled back into the greenhouse.<br />
<br />
Soon it will be time to take down the awnings and canopies from the back porch and patio.<br />
<br />
The billy boots stand ready at the back door for the twice daily tromp to the chicken coop.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwZq0XaUSp6nvufPJTEcaFF2O6KFuGrtQW2A6fAPLP1R-R12f7Ug9RK3RzVGYgP4IYYyZfrdgropnp5bRE0j3r6YZntE9YFWZNirpdjaLyoRhxTF1Z-ht2Dg-0b3LOwi9dsqM78upNTNrG/s1600/billy+boots.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwZq0XaUSp6nvufPJTEcaFF2O6KFuGrtQW2A6fAPLP1R-R12f7Ug9RK3RzVGYgP4IYYyZfrdgropnp5bRE0j3r6YZntE9YFWZNirpdjaLyoRhxTF1Z-ht2Dg-0b3LOwi9dsqM78upNTNrG/s200/billy+boots.jpg" width="200" height="133" /></a></div><br />
(In reality I should have been using them already due to all the rain we have been getting)<br />
<br />
The flannel sheets are back on the beds and the extra quilts and throws are draped over couches and at the end of beds.<br />
<br />
The fall flags (along with the Seahawks) are out on the front porch and garage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaFrqrSwiZHOgb82GPwR_9gBmRJCVenZqoR0ntJAlcraUKvF0gydBzvLLUMIyd12ifB5vtoeFJ-IMvJdtQUloF0QdlprkxgbBfBHo3-qXJVBB-EaTM7nt8v-DqAabMa_q5cOv29P84J0IH/s1600/seahawk+flag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaFrqrSwiZHOgb82GPwR_9gBmRJCVenZqoR0ntJAlcraUKvF0gydBzvLLUMIyd12ifB5vtoeFJ-IMvJdtQUloF0QdlprkxgbBfBHo3-qXJVBB-EaTM7nt8v-DqAabMa_q5cOv29P84J0IH/s320/seahawk+flag.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifGxqGfJuYUw6JqfuHzPZNcixDmzBfLjU_WtmGaVRTNWqQXLwpbLZXbdIqVJqE5Wd6UAQ5so8e0vsGi-_KL36FUq97kjyWNElYzwbi6jrzSuqDHlu5dOviAE3maDptHKdmgyvVELzxySbg/s1600/autumn-decorating-flags-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifGxqGfJuYUw6JqfuHzPZNcixDmzBfLjU_WtmGaVRTNWqQXLwpbLZXbdIqVJqE5Wd6UAQ5so8e0vsGi-_KL36FUq97kjyWNElYzwbi6jrzSuqDHlu5dOviAE3maDptHKdmgyvVELzxySbg/s320/autumn-decorating-flags-2.jpg" width="320" height="243" /></a></div><br />
We have been eating our acorn, sweet dumpling, and spaghetti squash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8aGOWvt5y8tzwTGlXTYjEzJnYXfbkhjptd9gNzjTYKveBDItrj8t8wO6N2UmxjEtkJKDgIDMx2QtVW9HBHmIYKX4jiD3UmAbOj4jQmKrcr8uptebMKcKq3Tj_m09AwdAXGWQ1SoCo5gRd/s1600/Pumpkin-ID-Chart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8aGOWvt5y8tzwTGlXTYjEzJnYXfbkhjptd9gNzjTYKveBDItrj8t8wO6N2UmxjEtkJKDgIDMx2QtVW9HBHmIYKX4jiD3UmAbOj4jQmKrcr8uptebMKcKq3Tj_m09AwdAXGWQ1SoCo5gRd/s320/Pumpkin-ID-Chart.jpg" width="216" height="320" /></a></div><br />
So about all that is left is to ready the tarps and old sheets to carry out tomorrow night to drape over garden beds still producing peppers, tomatoes, and zucchini.<br />
<br />
First frost of Autumn.<br />
<br />
<br />
We have been lucky!<br />
<br />
Now on to a new leaf.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7XpwjZKqLctPDSWYhmzC4erUfNvBcixZ9ecVduyS4ivouRpEUpTgKN727eusobRAXA9dW3VOggyu1z9ZBv3srX4zjun3gW8dpREn5xB9D6bG-440n3jaqRKhTOlIxWMN9SscAOcD2V-eH/s1600/fall+leaves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7XpwjZKqLctPDSWYhmzC4erUfNvBcixZ9ecVduyS4ivouRpEUpTgKN727eusobRAXA9dW3VOggyu1z9ZBv3srX4zjun3gW8dpREn5xB9D6bG-440n3jaqRKhTOlIxWMN9SscAOcD2V-eH/s400/fall+leaves.jpg" width="400" height="250" /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15876437116945579230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6318558631465992968.post-9141570166728405932016-09-26T08:25:00.000-07:002016-09-26T08:25:26.851-07:00An Amazing App!<br />
<br />
I don't usually talk about this sort of thing since we all are deluged with ads on every page we visit.<br />
<br />
But I gotta share this one!!<br />
<br />
Daughter Betsy turned me on to this and as skeptical as I am about this kind of thing, I gave it a shot.<br />
<br />
IT WORKS!!<br />
<br />
We all become part of team and earn money when the other members of our team shop.<br />
And Betsy is a shopper. <br />
<br />
<br />
I would be if I could drive. (pout pout)<br />
<br />
So squeeze one more app on your phone and click away and earn some spending money.<br />
You will be pleasantly surprised.<br />
<br />
I earned $5 on Saturday for stopping in at Joann Fabrics and picking up some things I needed anyway!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
My Referral Code: tmfhaou<br />
Sign up with my code and earn team points with all of us plus your own rebates.<br />

Drink. Vintage. Shopping. What could be better? What is a weekend of shopping without food and drink?<br />
<br />
<br />
Even the most dedicated shopper has to stop once in awhile for more fuel.<br />
<br />
And what better place then this lively spot?<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>O'houlis Kettlecorn stand. </b><br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
My name is Abby Nicholson and my Mama Linda Cederblom and I own and operate Sweet Pickins. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Sweet Pickins is a boutique in Hayden that has 60+ vendors of handmade, repurposed, vintage and antique items. <br />
<br />
My mom raised me crafty and when I found myself unhappy teaching school, I decided to go into business with mom selling crafts. <br />
<br />
<br />
We always loved vintage and antique but didn't think to mix with craft until some of our vendors came in who repurposed old and new. <br />
<br />
<br />
We have been open for 2.5 years now, its so fun to see local talent and history come into the shop, as well as meet new faces in our community who enjoy the same thing!<br />
<br />
<br />
There is something new on a daily basis so make sure to swing into Sweet Pickins in Hayden- 9521 N. Government Way Hayden, ID 83835<br />

Also, it gave my husband and myself a bonding experience. <br />
<br />
We have been successful in selling signs just by posting on social media; however, we are looking forward to selling at vintage sales. <br />
<br />
Our pricing varies anywhere from $5 to $65.<br />
<br />
And we will be able to take cash and card payments!<br />

This gal has come all the way from Florida to start a business here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.<br />
<br />
I hope she has warm blankies and sweaters on hand!<br />
<br />
Check out her website. I did and they will soon be a few pieces of inventory shorter!<br />

We had the tent in front of the bush at the "Y" at the last Vintage Pickin sale!<br />
<br />
We repurpose vintage pieces, as well as pick vintage pieces. <br />
<br />
Jackie is my Mother in Law and we decided to go into business together. <br />
<br />
We have a quaint little booth at Sweet Pickens (9521 N. Government Way Hayden, ID), <br />
<br />
and a website www.oneoakdecor.com. <br />

This next lady has been in business for awhile.<br />
<br />
<br />
She owned a brick and mortar but recently closed it to 'take it on the road'.<br />
<br />
And we're glad she did!<br />
<br />
Kathy also has an online presence on ETSY, where she has had a shop since 2009.<br />
<br />
<br />
If I had to pick a fave from her items, it would be the cherry bunting.<br />
<br />
So bright and cheery!<br />

<br />
This is such a cute family! You can tell the passion they have for this business.<br />
<br />
<br />
I hope I can do them justice!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfwsvaQJNFadnvBRwIrGoIw_cncFcgzJQVo6GWfUPO-b_yqUTQNAb8vWZSNRwdjg6f9srp_cproEwXsiYPu8-joB0buabXFykTCVS54VTw6FLcvgypp9DUZoGWzkwxNbEXZFVqCW2IVfzF/s1600/priscimage2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfwsvaQJNFadnvBRwIrGoIw_cncFcgzJQVo6GWfUPO-b_yqUTQNAb8vWZSNRwdjg6f9srp_cproEwXsiYPu8-joB0buabXFykTCVS54VTw6FLcvgypp9DUZoGWzkwxNbEXZFVqCW2IVfzF/s400/priscimage2.JPG" width="320" height="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
My name is Priscilla Kinsey and I created my home decor business, "Rusty New Home Decor". <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have an absolute love (obsession) with decorating, shopping and creating.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have three little girls and stay home with them, but having Rusty New Home Decor has given me an outlet to do what I love over and over again! <br />
<br />
<br />
My family puts up with all my crazy projects and messes on a daily basis and support me so wonderfully. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have a couple of booths at Paris Antiques all year and participate in all the local and semi-distant shows during the year.<br />
Meeting new faces and seeing my "followers" are what makes this even more fun. <br />
<br />

I was also blessed to be asked to stage a treehouse in Coeur D' Alene on the Timberline Adventures Zip Line Property last November, which aired on the DIY Network for the show "The Treehouse Guys". It was an amazing experience to be part of and I give thanks to my little business to have had the opportunity.<br />

I enjoy stocking up/creating unique pieces for each show's shoppers and displaying it all creatively. I'm a happy girl when I come home with very little inventory after a show, but immediately start the hoarding process for my next event. <br />

Over a year since I've been on here! What's going on? Well, life for starters. It can really mess up one's best intentions, right?
I know, right? (Sorry. Had to inject that here as I know how the family hates when I say that!)
But I am starting on here again and once again with best laid plans to be a more frequent voice to this and that, gossip, rants, fave recipes, pictures of grand-babies, (yes I have a newest and bestest one. Bad Grandma for saying that) and whatever else comes to mind.
I have been given the formidable task of writing bios and posting pictures of all the vendors who will be attending the awesome vintage show "VINTAGE PICKIN".
This is a twice-yearly show in Hayden, Idaho; once in the spring, and now the first weekend in October.
So I have about 3 weeks to highlight 70 or so incredible vendors!
They will be written about here first and then shared on various social media platforms. Facebook and their various group pages, Twitter, Instagram, and whoever and whatever other ones I can come up with! In other words, I am adamant about getting the word out! I don't have to tell all you my friends how hard we work at our craft; from drawing board to the finished product. We pour our hearts into it. We let our families go hungry. We forget to feed the dog. We stay in our pajamas all day 'cause we need one more coat of paint or the glue guns still hot. Heck, Hubs hasn't set down at the dining room table for over a year because it's either mounded up with fabrics and lace and sewing machines, or canners and jam pots stacked with canning jars and sheets of labels and 5 gallon buckets of sugar. Get the picture?
I don't know all these great people personally. But we all share the same drive. And we can't quit creating. We create in our heads while driving to work. In bed our minds don't turn off. We get excited seeing something in a store and think,"I could do this but different and better!" We have scraps of paper all over our homes of hastily scribbled ideas and crude drawings or lists of things to pick up next time we're in town.
So sit back and listen to these stories and have fun.
These stories will be in no particular order. Just as I receive e-mails from them describing their business and life.
I hope to get to all of them in time. If I don't, I apologize ahead of time. It's a daunting task to do in a short time. And I will get distracted by ideas circling round in my head. And the fact my finger is way to near the Pinterest button on the screen!
I guess I will start with me.
Patti's Garden Expressions
Patti's Garden Expressions is a family-run farm in Newman Lake, Washington.
We have been selling at local farmers markets and craft shows for almost 20 years, on Etsy since 2009, and just in the last 5 years have started doing vintage shows.
I needed an outlet for all my collections and projects!
Plus designing handcrafted items, sewing, and upcycling 'junk' seemed a natural way to keep the creative juices flowing while the garden was sleeping in the winter. Spokane winters seem to last forever at times!
This business has also helped sustain us both emotionally and financially after a debilitating accident left my hubby disabled. I am very blessed to be including my children and grandchildren in this adventure and welcome their input and imagination.
And their help!
I credit my success and drive to my family.
Mom was a home-ec teacher before her true calling as a mother interrupted. She always had us using our imaginations and creating something form 'found' objects and nature. And we sewed and practiced all the needle arts. Idle hands got into trouble don't you know!
Nana gave me the love of gardens and beauty in nature. Her garden was my secret garden and I spent the summers there.
And we were thick as thieves in her kitchen. Baking cakes, cinnamon rolls, pancakes with fresh blueberries she sent me out to pick in the outer garden.
Dad was from Dutch farming stock. He knew all kinds of garden secrets of how to get things to grow no matter where you were planted. Being a chemical engineer by profession, you can imagine the lively discussions we had later in life when I became the family 'tree hugger'! He also taught me how to care for animals and how to fish and hunt.
My mother-in-law was also a teacher in a former life and revived in me the art of canning. And she shared her plants with me when we bought our home. And we got her extra zucchini!
And I credit my husband who tirelessly listens to my new ideas and puts up with all my messes. And puts up with the frustrations when things don't work out. And he lets me borrow his tools!
I am proud to be again joining Vintage Pickin for their fall show and will be in my usual spot in the shed. Hope to see y'all!
And come visit us at "VINTAGE PICKIN". And see all our hard work and dreams!

Today I want to share how I save money and re-use some of the equipment from years before.
How many of you go to the garden centers and buy flats of pretty flowers or your veggie starts?
And what do you do with those flats and myriad of pots from all those purchases? Throw them out, recycle them, sneak them into a neighbors yard?
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibfdB6myTB0T9-AxJuHHe_9KliX9qzcSot9qNHF9jDKnbisKcM3pyebPv9_Qy4HBTraVToSLSx_wnLkDxNQkCiSbv_soff3PmCDbdbXxNFnTGqNW4yRKA-bgBkMc4YhyGLnJKk-DZi2HqO/s1600/garden+pots+in+bleach+water.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibfdB6myTB0T9-AxJuHHe_9KliX9qzcSot9qNHF9jDKnbisKcM3pyebPv9_Qy4HBTraVToSLSx_wnLkDxNQkCiSbv_soff3PmCDbdbXxNFnTGqNW4yRKA-bgBkMc4YhyGLnJKk-DZi2HqO/s320/garden+pots+in+bleach+water.jpg" /></a></div>
Well, if you don't live close enough to me to donate them why not re-use them yourself. Just a few steps and you are ready to go.
I start with first collecting all the pots and flats in various parts of the garden, shed, or wheelbarrow. I then fill a bucket, tub or whatever you have with some water and a couple of splashes of bleach. I grab a scrub brush and a chair. Throw the pots and flats in, a few at a time and let them soak or get to work. I swish them around, scrub any stubborn stains, swish again and set out somewhere clean to air dry. You are basically removing any crusty salt stains and debris, and also sanitizing against any soil bacteria or pests you don't want to pass along to new plantings.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRg5B7162ezmQ7CKxFbKqpNNBg0H3hl0KnfjsCzUN4d3iMcMP6_Va58JIhZRuBED_xlvQUBq5gDpgH3UaXXhhpCrVA7V4IIidL5mF4gmNQjFTvooGD1y-I6MMxfYCAbXG4s7IXWh7XWWqW/s1600/washing+pots+in+bleach.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRg5B7162ezmQ7CKxFbKqpNNBg0H3hl0KnfjsCzUN4d3iMcMP6_Va58JIhZRuBED_xlvQUBq5gDpgH3UaXXhhpCrVA7V4IIidL5mF4gmNQjFTvooGD1y-I6MMxfYCAbXG4s7IXWh7XWWqW/s320/washing+pots+in+bleach.jpg" /></a></div>
ATTENTION!! Eye protection and rubber gloves should be worn by persons who are known to splash bleach water in their eyes or plunge their hands with cuts on them into afore mentioned bleach water!
That's it. Quick and easy and your planters look like new.

I also use the leftover wash water to clean any pruning tools, shovels, saucers,etc. At this time I also sharpen any tools that need it and shove the hoes and shovels into a bucket of sand with some motor oil from the last oil change. This also cleans and keeps the rust away.
I will continue other Spring activities in coming up blogs.
Have fun!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15876437116945579230noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6318558631465992968.post-51768817120558442342015-02-19T10:02:00.000-08:002015-02-19T10:05:14.690-08:00Long WinterIt seems like winter is lasting forever. Granted, we have again been blessed with a mild one. More rain than snow. Not alot of the usual howling winds creating below zero wind chills.
Just lots of foggy grey mornings that blend one into the other. The morning commute out to the chickens, past the pond that never really froze this year. The koi swim restlessly, in that half hibernation state.
The buds are swelling in the magnolia, along the branches of the lilacs. Spring bulbs are awake and pushing up from cold but unfrozen ground.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9TOrb7JyPGq5-prQ3QecWhmH-lGbbejqnKtpxsdWrzCX82kRAXzfYHp_K8lLhN47gioCo_1dVe3gD95C3vyj5C5YVGsLb-zXL5lQJVxobC4pzrwmrO8MX3y164Et0DWcRHOmfCchVnMG4/s1600/Robin+Flock+on+Ground.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9TOrb7JyPGq5-prQ3QecWhmH-lGbbejqnKtpxsdWrzCX82kRAXzfYHp_K8lLhN47gioCo_1dVe3gD95C3vyj5C5YVGsLb-zXL5lQJVxobC4pzrwmrO8MX3y164Et0DWcRHOmfCchVnMG4/s320/Robin+Flock+on+Ground.jpg" /></a></div>
The robins came yesterday. Flocks gathered in the cherry trees, in the windbreak trees along the property lines. Singing, calling out to each other.
James said he heard the osprey yesterday. I had just commented as to when we would see them sitting on their nests at the end of our street and along the river.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpoiihRb10R-mw87ETkQDI_1FXR1wIXPXc3ecDq6KQYmaV9K-A1UJDn_4vxpYmvnByZAuKdnirnV8CoHQDe7rvDNwVqlCXNVjob1fZ4tqZHCG8fJkkdjyPJp1XmzjNPFSMUWTU3nVDgPl-/s1600/osprey_7808.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpoiihRb10R-mw87ETkQDI_1FXR1wIXPXc3ecDq6KQYmaV9K-A1UJDn_4vxpYmvnByZAuKdnirnV8CoHQDe7rvDNwVqlCXNVjob1fZ4tqZHCG8fJkkdjyPJp1XmzjNPFSMUWTU3nVDgPl-/s320/osprey_7808.jpg" /></a></div>
The chickens look plump and healthy. They scatter in the garden, looking for plump worms and bugs in the soft dirt.
Hoppy the coop bunny has picked his hen girlfriend and follows her wherever she goes. What a strange couple they make!
We are getting the greenhouse ready for Spring. Already rhubarb seeds are sprouting and we are getting the benches and flats of pots out for the tomatoes and other vegetable seeds. A more cautious ordering of seeds, bulbs, and plants this year as I am not working, but I still need to keep my stock up for Farmers Market, of which I hope to add the Wednesday Market to my usual Saturday one.

I have been sending out applications for the seasons craft and vintage shows.
Betsy and I have been busy scouring thrift stores for projects. Well, as best as we can since neither of us are driving and we have to rely on others who are not as welcome to the idea of spending time at the shops.
the Great Cleanup has trickled down a bit from the gangbusters it was. Too many treasures unearthed in the craft room led to creating instead of cleaning! But I am proud to say I am actually getting some of the started and discarded projects finished! So in a way that is still pushing forward. As I say this I look over at my eucalyptus heart wreath that I have had for over 10 years and finally got around to adding pink rosebuds to! Better late then never, right?
Dan and I are both trying to shed some additional weight brought on by our lack of being able to move around alot. It's hard when it's even a burden to walk. But hopefully the tease of sunshine and warm days will get us outdoors. I know I'm ready! Even the dogs show some extra plumpness and lethargy.
This being said, I look out through the sunroom and see the sun has finally burned off the fog. It is time to go outside and do something. There are trees that need pruned. Pots and flats to collect for the greenhouse. Terrariums, fairy gardens and planters to be planted up for upcoming shows.
Just get up and keep moving!

But awoke to blue skies and temps. in the 40's , so not all bad.
Not making it out to open the chickens today tho. Water over snow = too slippery to walk on. They've got plenty of food and walking around room inside. Let them sit in the nests and lay all day!
Betsy and family came over yesterday. Betsy is still recovering from ankle surgery and using crutches and a knee walker. She and Aaron spent the day brushing up on their welding skills. She got a welder for her birthday. Hubby showed them the bin racks he is making for the craft room.
Hubby (Dan)installed the first set of bin racks downstairs. They are going to be great. Now I can start bringing in the bins and sorting thru them some more as I go. Projects go a lot faster and better when you know where your supplies are and can get at them quickly!
He will also be making a long table against one wall that will hold all the sewing machines ( regular, serger, quilter and embroidery)along with the Silhouette machines and hookups for the laptop and printer that we will need.
It is a small room and I have alot of supplies as you have seen from previous pictures. Plus I want to bring more in from other rooms. Like glass, cutters, came, patterns for the glass-work Dan does, frames, mat board and supplies for framing projects (again Dan), and the myriad cans of spray paint that now hang out in the garage.
Well, I better sign off and get some work done. The playoff game between Seattle and Green Bay is short hours away.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!

I've come to binders of my beloved Victoria magazine. Dating from the 90's forward. Does anyone have use for these? There are so many beautiful articles and pictures, I hate to get rid of them. I was saving for research on some articles I wanted to write but never did. I also have many garden and decorating magazines but not willing to part with them quite yet. But if any one collects Victoria or has need of a specific issue, I would let go for really cheap!
UPDATE: Can't bear to part with my Victoria magazines. They are not going in the recycle bin!! At least not right now.
But I did empty five stacks of various other magazines, so not a total wash-out.
Now quit reading the magazines and get back to work!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15876437116945579230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6318558631465992968.post-27520023391666085422015-01-18T10:18:00.001-08:002015-01-18T10:18:03.363-08:00Pantry, Done!Well, the pantry is done! All organized and alot more room now. I can actually see and get to the food in there!
Basically all the bins and boxes are out of the craft room. Everything but the ones up on shelves. Will move them as we redo each wall. Only thing left on the floor is the hope chest, sewing cabinet, table and glass front cupboards. Will move them also as we redo each part of the room. Oh, and the posters are all off the ceiling!
Onwards and upwards. Let's see what we get done tomorrow!

I am thinking of a muted, barn red in kitchen. Should I go just the island which is a huge entity on its own or all the base cabinets? The top cabinets I'm thinking of aged country cream with distressing?
Any suggestions?
There will be a darker wood floor and a stainless gas range being replaced. And probably all my pink flamingo collection will be moved out and exchanged for country accents. The cabinets now are an unfinished red oak. I originally wanted butcher block countertops with denim stained cabinets, but someone (Hubby) didn't listen to me!
I know all you guys can help me out!
Sorry the pics are crap. I always am moving for the next shot!
And excuse the dogs that decided to photo bomb!

Here are some pics of the work in progress in the craft room. All the bins on the floor are now in the other bedroom. Trying to cajole Hubby into looking at my Pinterest board 'craft rooms' and to get him downstairs to look at the room for built-in options and various cupboards and shelves I have around here.
This was formerly my sons room and as you can see some of his posters are still on the ceiling. They are also on the wall behind the shelves. Just in case he ever wanted to move back home?
And those ugly popcorn ceilings! Whose idea was that to invent those?
I've scraped the ones upstairs and it is sooo much nicer! Really easy to do. I mist a small area with water from a squirt bottle, Take a wide taping knife or putty knife and hold a waste basket underneath you attack! Comes right off! Why did I wait so long to do this? I thought it would be hard.
